I think you become an artist when you start getting excited about the yellow color that you see in a shadow and realize it is the yellow color of the block affecting all its surroundings. It is one thing to know it, in theory, and it is another thing when you actually see it.

It was a lot of struggle involved in that study. For example, I couldn't mix the orange color in the lit area. It wasn't saturated enough. White wouldn't work and lemon yellow wasn't doing it either. I tried to be as honest as possible and painted what I saw and still my colors weren't saturated enough.

The more I paint the more I find out there is so much more to learn...
