Wooden Blocks #3

I think you become an artist when you start getting excited about the yellow color that you see in a shadow and realize it is the yellow color of the block affecting all its surroundings. It is one thing to know it, in theory, and it is another thing when you actually see it.

It was a lot of struggle involved in that study. For example, I couldn't mix the orange color in the lit area. It wasn't saturated enough. White wouldn't work and lemon yellow wasn't doing it either. I tried to be as honest as possible and painted what I saw and still my colors weren't saturated enough.

The more I paint the more I find out there is so much more to learn...

Wooden Blocks #2

I absolutely love my blocks. I know it sounds weird but I cannot get enough of them. I love seeing how colors affect each other. How the shadow of the yellow figure became green because of the blue block. And the purple color on the blue block created by the red figure. I'm training my eye to see more colors in the shadows. There are many colors in my set I might continue studying color that way for a while...
I might have mentioned before that I was a single mother. As such I'm trying to find time in my schedule to paint every day. That is my goal to spend on painting and drawing at least an hour a day. In fact, I started using my sketchbook again:

What can be a better still life subject if you decided to focus on color? I technically bought these blocks for my daughter. Well, not that she doesn't enjoy them but I am the one who got very attached to them. First, they are vintage from the 80th - my childhood era, and the second, I like how they feel and look. Again it might be a reminder of my childhood. And I liked the vibrant colors. To be honest I specifically bought those for color studies.

I saw a couple of interesting color changes such as red in the pink cylinder, different colors of the shadows. I think I might paint several different color combinations in the future.
